Turn the shirt inside out and wash cold, on a gentle cycle, with like colours. A mild detergent keeps the dye deep and the hand of the cloth soft. Skip the bleach — copper does not take kindly to it.
The atelier guide
A Charles Montage shirt is cut to last decades, not seasons. These are the house rules for washing, pressing and storing — the same ones we follow in the atelier.

Turn the shirt inside out and wash cold, on a gentle cycle, with like colours. A mild detergent keeps the dye deep and the hand of the cloth soft. Skip the bleach — copper does not take kindly to it.
(02)
Shake the shirt out and hang it while damp, away from direct afternoon sun. The weight of the water pulls most creases out on its own. Tumble dryers are welcome only on the lowest heat, and never for silk.
(03)
Iron on medium heat while the shirt is slightly damp, collar first, then yoke, sleeves, and the body last. A pressing cloth protects twill and silk finishes. The collar should stand before anything else does.
(04)
Button the top button, hang on a shaped hanger, and give the shirt room to breathe. For long storage, fold along the original creases and wrap in the muslin bag your order arrived in.
(05)
Twenty minutes on a hanger after a day's wear lets the cloth recover. Steam clears light creases and refreshes the collar between full washes — less washing means a longer life for the shirt.
